Correction, Retraction & Withdrawal

The Journal of Community Health and Nursing (JCHN) is committed to maintaining the integrity of the scholarly record. To uphold transparency, accountability, and trust in academic publishing, we have established a clear policy on corrections, retractions, and withdrawal of published articles. These processes are guided by international ethical standards, including those of the Committee on Publication Ethics (COPE).

1. Corrections (Errata)

A correction (also called an erratum) is issued when a published article contains minor errors that do not affect the study’s overall results or conclusions. Examples include:

  • Author name misspellings

  • Incorrect affiliations

  • Errors in figures, tables, or references

  • Typographical errors

Policy:

  • Corrections will be published as a separate notice linked to the original article and will clearly describe the changes made.

  • The original article remains available online, with a link to the correction notice.

  • All corrections must be approved by the Editor-in-Chief.

2. Retractions

A retraction is issued when a published article is found to have serious flaws or ethical violations that invalidate its findings. Grounds for retraction include:

  • Evidence of data fabrication or falsification

  • Plagiarism or duplicate publication

  • Unethical research practices (e.g., lack of ethical approval or informed consent)

  • Authorship disputes not resolved appropriately

  • Undisclosed conflicts of interest affecting the integrity of findings

  • Major calculation or methodological errors

Policy:

  • A formal Retraction Notice will be published, clearly stating the reason(s) for retraction.

  • The original article PDF will remain accessible but marked clearly as "Retracted" on every page.

  • Retractions can be initiated by authors, editors, or third parties (e.g., institutions or readers), and are reviewed by the Editorial Board and Publisher.

  • The journal follows COPE Retraction Guidelines and ensures due process.

3. Article Withdrawal (Pre-Publication)

Withdrawal applies to articles that have been accepted but not yet published online (in press). Authors may request withdrawal under certain conditions, such as:

  • Major errors discovered by the author

  • Ethical concerns

  • Duplicate submission discovered before publication

Policy:

  • Authors must provide a written and signed request for withdrawal, stating the reason.

  • If unethical behavior is suspected (e.g., simultaneous submission), further investigation will be conducted, and sanctions may apply.

  • Once an article is published online with a DOI, it cannot be withdrawn and must follow retraction protocols if necessary.

4. Removal of Content (Rare Cases)

In exceptional circumstances, an article may be removed from the journal website, such as:

  • Legal orders or proven defamation

  • Public health risks

  • Privacy violations (e.g., unconsented identifiable patient data)

Policy:

  • Removal will be replaced with a notice of removal, explaining the reason for action.

  • Removal decisions require the approval of the Publisher, Editor-in-Chief, and, if needed, legal counsel.

5. Updates to Policy

JCHN reserves the right to update this policy periodically in line with developments in ethical publishing standards and COPE best practices.
