Open Access Policy

The Journal of Community Health and Nursing (JCHN) is an international, peer-reviewed, open-access journal that prioritizes equitable access to scientific knowledge and the free dissemination of research in the fields of nursing, public health, and community-based healthcare. From its inaugural issue, JCHN commits to the principle that research should be freely accessible to all, without financial, legal, or technical barriers.


1. Open Access Statement

JCHN is a fully open access journal. All published articles are:

  • Immediately and permanently accessible online upon publication

  • Free to read, download, copy, share, print, and redistribute

  • Licensed for reuse under the terms of a Creative Commons Attribution 4.0 International License (CC BY 4.0)

This policy is aligned with the Budapest Open Access Initiative (BOAI), which advocates for unrestricted availability of research literature to promote innovation, collaboration, and transparency.


2. Licensing and Copyright

All content in JCHN is published under the:
Creative Commons Attribution 4.0 International License (CC BY 4.0)

Under this license:

  • Authors retain full copyright of their work.

  • Readers may use, distribute, modify, and build upon the work, even for commercial purposes.

  • Proper attribution must be given to the original author(s), source, and license.

  • Any changes made must be clearly indicated.

This license enhances the visibility, impact, and reach of authors' work while protecting author rights.


3. Article Processing Charges (APCs)

As a first-edition, inaugural open-access journal, JCHN is pleased to announce that:

  • There are no submission fees.

  • There are no article processing charges (APCs).

  • There are no publication or access fees for authors or readers.

All publication costs are fully supported by the publisher, PT Inovasi Multi Guna, to encourage the growth of accessible academic publishing in Indonesia and beyond.


4. Accessibility and Availability

All published articles are made freely available on the official journal website:

Features include:

  • HTML and PDF formats for readability and download

  • No registration or login required

  • Compatible with screen readers and mobile devices to support accessibility


5. Archiving and Digital Preservation

To ensure long-term availability, JCHN implements multiple archiving strategies:

  • Articles are backed up via institutional repositories and publisher-controlled archives.

  • Future integration with the PKP Preservation Network (PKP PN) and LOCKSS is planned.

  • Metadata is deposited with Crossref to ensure DOI tracking and discoverability.


6. Indexing and Discoverability

Although this is the first edition, JCHN is actively pursuing indexing in the following open-access and academic repositories:

  • DOAJ (Directory of Open Access Journals)

  • Google Scholar

  • GARUDA (Garba Rujukan Digital – Indonesia)

  • Neliti

  • BASE (Bielefeld Academic Search Engine)

  • Dimensions

  • Crossref (with DOI assignment)

These efforts aim to enhance the visibility, citation potential, and global reach of authors' publications.


7. Ethical Use of Open Access Content

While JCHN articles are open access and free to reuse, all users must:

  • Cite the original work appropriately, including author name(s), article title, journal name, volume, issue, page number, and DOI.

  • Avoid implying endorsement by the original authors or journal in any reused content.

  • Clearly indicate if any changes, adaptations, or translations are made to the original content.


8. Commitment to Open Science and Equity

From its inception, JCHN supports:

  • Equitable access to knowledge for researchers, practitioners, and students in all regions, especially LMICs.

  • Open educational use of content in academic curricula and training programs.

  • Multilingual inclusion in future editions to enhance global participation and accessibility.


9. Policy Review and Transparency

This Open Access Policy is:

  • Developed based on international standards by COPE, DOAJ, OASPA, and WAME.

  • Reviewed annually and updated as necessary to reflect advancements in open-access publishing and technology.
