Editor Process & Responsibilities

The International Journal of Adolescent and Pediatric Health (IJAPH) maintains high editorial standards to ensure the scientific integrity, ethical rigor, and global relevance of all published works. The editorial team operates in accordance with the Committee on Publication Ethics (COPE) guidelines and adheres to the Principles of Transparency and Best Practice in Scholarly Publishing.

Editorial Process

  1. Submission Receipt & Initial Screening

    • Manuscripts are first screened by the Editor-in-Chief or designated Section Editor for:

      • Scope alignment

      • Adherence to formatting guidelines

      • Plagiarism check (using iThenticate or Turnitin)

      • Ethical clearance (IRB/consent/funding)

  2. Assignment to Section Editor

    • Qualified Section Editors with subject-matter expertise manage manuscripts assigned to their section.

  3. Reviewer Selection

    • At least two qualified peer reviewers are selected, ensuring no conflict of interest.

    • A double-blind peer review process is used.

  4. Editorial Decision

    • Based on reviewers' recommendations, the Section Editor or Editor-in-Chief makes a decision:

      • Accept

      • Accept with minor revisions

      • Revise and resubmit (major)

      • Reject

    • The editorial decision is final and is communicated with detailed reviewer comments.

  5. Revision Monitoring

    • Editors ensure timely and complete revisions from authors.

    • Revised manuscripts may be re-reviewed or directly accepted based on the extent of revision.

  6. Final Acceptance & Production

    • After final acceptance, the manuscript proceeds to copyediting, layout, and publication.

    • Editors approve final proofs before release.

Editorial Roles & Responsibilities

Editor-in-Chief

  • Oversees the entire editorial process and journal policy

  • Ensures editorial independence and adherence to ethical standards

  • Represents the journal in indexing, partnerships, and professional societies

Managing Editor

  • Coordinates editorial workflows and production timelines

  • Communicates with authors, reviewers, and editors

  • Assists with indexing, metadata, and technical requirements

Section Editors

  • Evaluate manuscript quality in specific disciplines

  • Select suitable reviewers

  • Recommend editorial decisions based on review outcomes

Editorial Board Members

  • Provide subject expertise and strategic guidance

  • Review manuscripts and support journal promotion

  • Uphold ethical and academic standards

 Editorial Ethics

All editors must:

  • Maintain confidentiality of submitted manuscripts

  • Act impartially and without bias

  • Disclose any conflicts of interest

  • Ensure that decisions are based solely on scientific merit

  • Respond to allegations of misconduct according to COPE Flowcharts

 Conflict of Interest

Editors must recuse themselves from handling manuscripts in which they have:

  • Personal relationships with authors

  • Recent collaborations

  • Financial or institutional conflicts

Handling of Misconduct

Editors are responsible for initiating investigations into:

  • Plagiarism

  • Data fabrication or falsification

  • Ethical violations (e.g., informed consent breaches)

  • Undisclosed conflicts of interest

In such cases, COPE's Retraction Guidelines and flowcharts will guide actions, which may include contacting institutions, retraction, or correction.
